ℙ𝕣𝕖𝕤𝕖𝕟𝕥𝕖𝕕 𝕓𝕪: 𝕄𝕚𝕔𝕙𝕒𝕖𝕝 ℍ𝕠 1/ Director:

Goro Miyazaki (宮崎 吾朗, Miyazaki Gorō) was born on January 21, 1967. He is a Japanese director and is the son of animator and film director Hayao Miyazaki, who is one of the co-founders of Studio Ghibli. Being described as "reluctant" to follow his father's career, Goro initially worked as a landscaper for many years before entering the film business. 2/ From Up On Poppy Hill: From Up on Poppy Hill is a 2011 Japanese animated drama film directed by Gorō Miyazaki, animated by Studio Ghibli for the Nippon Television Network, Dentsu, Hakuhodo DY Media Partners, Walt Disney Japan, Mitsubishi, and Toho. It is based on the 1980 serialized manga of the same name illustrated by Chizuru Takahashi and written by Tetsurō Sayama.
3/ Plot: A group of Yokohama students fight to save their school's clubhouse from the wrecking ball during preparations for the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games. While working there, Umi and Shun gradually attract each other, but face a sudden trial. Even so, they keep going without fleeing the difficulties of reality.

5/ Some interesting words for students: a) 兵士 (hei shi): soldier => A soldier is a member of the military. The military, or armed forces, protects a country’s land, sea, and airspace from foreign invasion

b) 大洋 (tai you): ocean => where the war started and ended

3/ レーダー (re-da-: radar => pronounce in long sound for each part): A radar system operates by transmitting a high-frequency signal out toward a target.

c) “自民族中心的” (みん ぞく ちゅう しん てき な or min-zoku-chyu-sin-teki-na): ethnocentricity: the love that a citizen/soldier has for their own countries.

6/ Japanese war: Umi’s father was a captain on a supply ship => “supply ship”: the millitary back then is a major force in ensuring people get enough clothes, food and water and vital supply to survive the war => showing how harsh and scary the war was back then.

His ship sank => the danger of the war: taking a soldier/captain’s life. Leaving mass destruction: despair to later generations / grief / loss of supply for those starving and thirst.

The aftermath: => Leaving families in despair, devastation, grief for the rest of their life for those who passed away without saying good bye.

=> Multiple houses were damaged, destroyed, leaving millions homeless and had nowhere to go.

=> Starvation in many districts, cities, large areas.

7/ What the movie taught us Family’s love never ends

2. Stop war, stop the hate, promote love + Appreciate the efforts of the pioneers for keeping the nation peaceful and independent

3. Understand how hard Japanese fought during the war and how they supported each other

8/ What you can do as a student – a nation’s future => Study hard

=> Participate in social activities (propagandize Anti-war through paintings and creativity)

=> Spread love to family, friends and others

=> Get to know friends from other countries, learn and embrace the diversity of culture)
