𝟏. 𝐌𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐛𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠

𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞: 𝐀𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐚 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐏𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭

I have never been fascinated with writing when I was a little boy. The world out there is big, inviting a young, active and lively boy to experience everything outside his tiny study space. But something struck him hard at the age of 15: his mind changed, he started to observe the people, the life around him and realized that they affected his well-being. Saying well-being, it was his writing styles and reading in particular. The place, the people and everything in his life had their own meanings that he did not know before. That boy is now 18, enjoying every moment with the magic that the words in books brought to him and the pleasure of writing - his getaway from the hectic whirlwind of negativity. As an appreciation to nurture that love, he wanted to reflect on everything that led him to create that love. Therefore, overjoyed as I am while writing this, I want to share with everyone - my ever-first Literacy Narrative.

☻ However, according to James Paul Gee in What is Literacy?: “most people aren't very good at attaining functional use of a second language through formal instruction in a classroom.”

☻ Therefore, I realized that acquisition is important and started to do research on the Asian pieces of literary work myself

☻ Furthermore, my reading and writing improved significantly through changes in mindset and points of views (with the help of six literacy artefacts)

✨ A masterpiece that looked into the history of Japan

✨ The movie depicts how difficult life was to a girl who lost her father during war times and was trying to continue livng

✨ Sympathy was how I felt after watching the movie and also recognition of how much Japanese wars could affect millions of people and put them in difficult times, struggling for their lives

⛵ A story about a photographer who wants to take pictures for his calendar

⛵ From far away, the photographer witness a breath-taking scenery: A fishing boat sailing peacefully under the sunrise of the sea 

⛵ However, when the boat was close-up, he saw a woman was being hit brutally by her husband

⛵ The man was thought to be an insolent brute and was highly condemned by readers

🐶 It is all about the adventurous journey of Candy, after having lost his way home, seeked to return with the help of other animals

🐶 What is most interesting about this book is that it is very close to reality

🐶 The reason is that there is a part in the book, using Candy’s point of view, described his fear when witnessing his fellow friends being kidnapped and was sent to stores to be killed and cooked up brutally.

⛰️ Looking back at war times through a famous Vietnamese work of literature

⛰️ Described the journey of the soldiers under the mountain’s extreme weather condition: bitterly cold

⛰️ Many fell down and forever rest in peace, the others suffered from different diseases that made walking much harder

⛰️ Yet they still kept their heads up, cheering and motivating each other with songs, poems and physical supports

📚 I learned to choose great books to dive into, thanks to the technique of skimming through the years

📚 Not only books but also articles as well. Any articles relating to language, movies, war and nation’s history can arouse my curiosity. However, I also knew how to differentiate them and choose the official and high quality ones to read.

✏️ Made good use of the tone that suited any random essays

✏️ Different from the past, I wrote with care, consideration of word choices

✏️ Analyzed a literature work very well by putting myself in the context

🖋️ They all had one theme: highlighting my gentleness in my taste. I was more of an introvert person. This means that I prefer movies and books with depth, slow-pace to feel, to experience and to have more time living in those stories.

🖋️ All these artifacts shaped my deep thoughts, understanding and creating a new point-of-view on life.

🖋️ They started to teach me "still moments" - which are, slowing down, stopping my fast-pace when writing. I was encouraged to really feel the essence of each of the artifacts to find out their meanings, their messages and their life lessons.

🌸 I am at an academic level with basic understanding of writing - exposing myself to the principles and rules when writing. Also, I am trying hard to learn more about what to avoid when writing

🌸 As for reading, however, I am in somewhat the intermediate level because I have been reading multiple readings: comics, fiction, novel, articles, reports, etc. Therefore, I am quite more confident towards my reading and know which piece of reading best fits me.
